The official website of Finish rock festival Ruisrock announced the first band selection for this years edition.The artists list is even more than promising, and it seams Ruisrock will beat heads over other popular Finnish summer festivals. The audience will be able to see the best Finnish metal bands i.e.: Nightwish, HIM, Apocalyptica, Amorphis, Sonata Arctica, Hanoi Rocks, The 69 Eyes, Turisas as well as grate international performances i.e.: Interpol (USA), Bullet For My Valentine (UK), The Ark (SWE), Life of Agony (USA), Opeth (SWE), Porcupine Tree (USA), The Cult (UK) and many more. The list is not closed yet!
Ruisrock 2008
will have place as always on a beautiful island Ruissalo in Turku, Finland
on the first weekend of June (4-6.07). Ruisrock is second oldest rock festival
in Europe. It was founded in 1970, and from
this time with only a little brakes (1981 and 1986), is held annually. Over 37
years (!!!) of activity grate number of fantastic, world wide known bands
appeared on the festival stages, such as: Nazareth, Thin Lizzy, The Clash, U2,
Whitesnake, The Cure, Bob Dylan, Soundgarden, Nirvana, Faith No More, Jethro
Tull, Blur, David Bowie, Björk, Metallica, Catatonia, Iron Maiden, TOOL. When
in 2005 German Industrial band Rammstein performed, the festival reached over
21 000 people at the audience.
Ruisrock is held in the area of Ruissalo
Island, part of the Archipelago Sea
and some part of it are included in nature conservation programs. Each year
activists of nature preservation organisations raise protest against organising
this event. However the festival is very popular among Finns and foreigners, it
attract large amount of visitors, which is probably the main reason the Green
loose, their battles every year. Nevertheless, Ruisrock does many things to
make the festival as environmentally friendly as possible. Visitors can also
take part in reducing the effect the festival has to the nature of Ruissalo Natural Park
by following some simple rules. Use public transportation or share a car with
friends and fellow festival goers; Respect the nature, stay on the marked paths
and don’t disturb the nature of Ruissalo, bring only things that will be also
taken away, use recyclable materials with your festival and picnic gear.
